TINUBU SIGNS READOPTED NATIONAL ANTHEM “NIGERIA WE HAIL THEE”
The readopted national anthem “Nigeria,we hail thee” was formerly used from independence in 1960 till 1978 when it was replaced with “Arise, O Compatriots”, the readopted anthem “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” was passed by the national assembly on 23rd May 2024 and signed into law by president Bola Tinubu on 29th May 2024 to replace “Arise, O Compatriots”.
Inspite of complains from some Nigerians on low consultation of citizens for deliberations and acceptance of the anthem before its readoption, schools and citizens especially civil servants are already on their toes learning the lyrics of the anthem.
NIGERIA WE HAIL THEE
STANZA I
Nigeria, we hail thee,
Our own dear native land,
Though tribes and tongues may differ
In brotherhood we stand,
Nigerians all, and proud to serve
Our sovereign Motherland.
STANZA II
Our flag shall be a symbol
That truth and justice reign,
In peace or battle honour’d,
And this we count as gain,
To hand on to our children
A banner without stain.
STANZA III
O God of all creation,
Grant this our one request.
Help us to build a nation
Where no man is oppressed,
And so with peace and plenty
Nigeria may be blessed.
