SHEDRACK MADLION FOUNDATION HOLDS SYMPOSIUM ON CHANGING THE NARRATIVE OF MENTAL HEALTH
This years’ edition of the annual conference by Shedrack Madlion Foundation held on friday in Abuja with the theme “mental health and emotional stability – changing the narrative”.
Former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, Chief Dr Chetachi Ecton, Dr Gen. Oviemo Ovadje, country director, action aid Mrs Ene Obi, Business mentor and life coach Mr Ugochukwu Omeogu, Dr Shoyombo were amongst friends, relatives, members of the organisation and health experts who took turn to give diverse exposures on life experiences and the associated mental and emotional imbalances.
They spoke on the need for awareness, provision of care and policies for mental health conditions which are different from conventional insanity such as depression, suicidal tendencies and other forms of emotional instability especially because of the problems in the country that are leaving many people devastated.
The Chief Executive Officer of SMF, Mrs Patience Madlion noted that the conference is a conversation pattern where people are exposed to knowing about themselves and people around them.
She said that her members are taught not to be dismayed by experiences but move on with a mindset on the slogan “I wear my scare, my scare does not wear me”
She described the theme as unique because creating awareness on mental health and emotional instability is making early diagnosis and treatment possible for people adding that hospitals are getting to care for mental health due to the creation of awareness by civil society organizations.
A side attraction of the event was award presentation to people who have contributed to the foundation and the society.
The SMF was established by Mrs Patience Madlion to immortalize her husband Mr Shedrack Mandlion who died few years ago from insecurity encounter along Abuja-Kaduna expressway.
