NASS MOVES TO ENGAGE BUHARI OVER 19 REJECTED CONSTITUTION AMENDMENT BILLS
The Senate President Ahmad Lawan has said that the National Assembly (NASS) will engage the executive to check why President Muhammadu Buhari did not sign 19 of the 35 constitution amendment bills.
Speaking Tuesday at the resumption of the plenary after governorship and states assembly elections, he said that the Constitution Review Committee will engage the executive arm of government to know the issues with the bills that have not been assented to and see if such issues can be dealt with immediately because a lot of resources and time were put in to produce the bills.
“I believe there may be a few explanations that we will make, and they will be okay, and we will do that almost immediately because time is of the essence.
“Where the issues are too much to handle, I think the 10th NASS should be able to attend to such issues.” he said.
President Buhari this month signed 16 out of the 35 constitution amendment bills sent to him by NASS.
One of the bills he did not sign is the empowerment of the national assembly and states’ houses of assembly to summon the president and governors of states to answer questions on issues which the national and state houses of assembly have the powers to make.
