JOINBODI COHORT UNVEILS ACHIEVEMENTS OF CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS
The achievements of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the country were unveiled as the Joinbodi Foundation held exhibition and dialogue with key stakeholders in public and private sectors.
The epoch making event held tuesday in Abuja was put together by BudgIT and other distinguished CSO’s under the Joinbodi Cohort Foundation, the conglomerate of CSO’s that have worked over the years advancing the maintenance of fiscal transparency, accountability, human rights, good governance and sustenance of democracy.
With the theme ” Reforming governance to enhance social accountability – cultivating people’s power”, the event held with the support of MacArthur Foundation, unveiled a five-year research on over the years’ achievements of CSO’s in good governance, panel discussions on the achievements, preservations and areas for further actions.
It also featured the
showcasing of documented achievements by BudgIT, Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA), Civil Society Legislative Advocy Centre (CISLAC), Center for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED), Policy and Legal Advocacy Center (PLAC), Center for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), Socio Economic Right and Accountability Project (SERAP) Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA), Connected Development (CODE) and other distinguished CSO’s
The keynote speaker, Special Adviser to the president on policy coordination, Hajia Hadiza Bala Usman commended the CSO’s for their unrelenting efforts in the country and pledged the commitment of President Bola Tinubu to the execution and sustenance of democratic reforms.
Also speaking, the minister of budget and national planning Senator Abubakar Bagudu pointed out that accountability starts with the citizens having a sense of ownership and checks on the fulfilment of promises and activities of those in government and public functionaries.
He advised that citizens should avoid presumptions but emulate the CSO’s in ensuring that leaders are held accountable on their functions.
