HEALTH: HANDLE EYE STRAIN ASSOCIATED WITH VISION DEVICES
In contemporary times, telecommunications devices-telephones, computers, television available in various sizes and models enhance acquisition and dissemination of knowledge and all sorts of human interaction around the world. Constant use of these devices also result to eye strain or vision syndrome, a condition where a user becomes unable to concentrate or read from the screen. Medical fact file says that although it reverses when a person is not on prolonged or frequent view, eye strain resulting from vision devices can lead to inability to see the contents of your screen, blurred or double vision and it is also a sign of underlying eye defect that needs treatment. It symptoms include but not limited to burning/itching eyes, watery/dryness, uncomfortable sensitivity to light, headache, inability to concentrate, feeling unable to keep eyes open.
TO EASE EYES STRAIN
1. Blink often and use the appropriate posture or a document holder that suits your posture.
2. At intervals take a break off the screen, look at something about twenty feet away for at least twenty seconds.
3. Adjust the content of your task by adjusting the contrast or brightness of the screen or increase the size of the content.
4. Improve air quality, avoid air blowing into your eyes.
5. Use lubricating eye drops that do not contain preservatives, you can simply wash your face with clean water to hydrate your eyes.
6. Where necessary, ensure that you use the right eye wear.
7. It is important to use light when on screen but ensure it is not shinning directly into your eyes, adjust it by positioning it behind you or focused on your task but shaded from your eyes. Visit a doctor if the eye strain remains persistent
