GBAJABIAMILA LAUNCHES LEGISLATIVE MENTORSHIP FOR YOUTH INCLUSION IN GOVERNANCE
The house of representatives has said that it will continue to evolve measures to build the capacity of young Nigerians for leadership positions.
Speaker of the House, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila stated this at the opening of Legislative Mentorship Initiative LMI, at the national assembly complex in Abuja.
He noted that the youths need participation in political and governance processes to be able to achieve their desire to lead.
The LMI was founded by the speaker to identify and train next generation of public sector leaders especially in legislative business.
In a remark, the Director General National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Professor Abubakar Suleiman promised to support efforts towards sustaining the initiative through provision of expertise and resources.
On his part, Founder of Albino Foundation Mr Jake Ekpelle commended the speaker for the inclusion of persons with disabilities and pledged support for the success of the project.
The Director Mr Dapo Oyewole said seventy four participants drawn from all states of the federation and the federal capital territory will undergo intensive three weeks training on leadership development processes.
He charged them to justify the confidence repose in them.
Some of the participants expressed optimism that the programme will equip them with the knowledge to contribute to the development of the country.
