CENTER LSD MOBILIZES STAKEHOLDERS FOR SCALE UP POLICY ACTIONS ON GENDER BASED VIOLENCE
The African Center for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Center LSD) has called for indepth actions on policies to curtail Gender Based Violence (GBV) and its consequences.
It made the call today in Abuja at the opening of a two-day GBV advocacy programme ” grant inception meeting for the side by side movement for gender justice scale up project”
The event was attended by traditional rulers, faith based organizations, civil society organizations, social and gender experts in the struggle against gender based violence.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of the center Mr Monday Osasa explained that the meeting emphasized on Benue and Kano states due to their low ranking in global humanity index against GBV in the country.
He said that the programme was organized for review, validation and action plans to raise the standard of policy implementation in the affected areas.
Participants at the event expressed their beliefs that the outcome of the programme will scale up policies and actions on female genital mutilation, domestic violence, rape and other sexual abuses.
They pointed out that part of the package for wholistic handling of GBV should be a strengthened legal stance for prosecution and protection, establishment of agency for reports, tackling of cases and inclusion of mental health in handling of cases especially sexual abuses that fall within incest.
