AFRO CARIBBEAN GROUP LAMENTS DETERIORATED AFRICAN CULTURE, REQUESTS SUPPORT FOR MAY 21-25 RESUSCITATION SUMMIT
Afro Caribbean Chamber of Culture and Tourism (ACCCAT) has called on stakeholders in the public and private sectors to give adequate support for its upcoming African Youth Leadership and Culture Summit designed to address the status quo of intense youth departure from the continent, disregard for self development and abandonment of African culture, norms and values.
The president of ACCCAT, Honourable Kehinde Quadri-adu Shakira noted that the development of the economic potentials of Africa and the rich cultural heritage are at stake as the fastest growing population which is the youth has lost its hope and abilities for the development of the continent.
Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday in Abuja, he stated that Africans need to take a cue from the Chinese who have been able to deliver the needed modernization and development for their self actualization.
He stated that the May 21-25 summit fixed to coincide with the African day on the new calendar of African Union is a clarion call on government and corporate organisations in Africa especially in Nigeria to give adequate attention to self development.
He explained that the event expected to draw at least five thousand delegates around Africa and other parts of the world, will be a rare instance when youth development experts, innovative youths, celebrities, influencers and youths from divers fields will get to participate live or watch online.
He said that the Youth Leadership and Culture Summit will be an annual gathering for youths to discuss what binds Africans together as a continent, inspire the next generation of culture ambassadors who can contribute to the sustainable development of their communities, preserve and promote African culture, provide a forum for youths to share their odds and concerns about development opportunities using multisectoral, multiministerial and increase collaboration and networking with organisations and partners working on youth development.
He maintained that the history making summit to be held in Abuja, Nigeria will be the most important youth event of the year with an expected economic benefit in upward of $100 million, tourism receipt, hospitality, transportation, media public relations and increase in the visibility and awareness of African culture on a global scale with its multiplying effects.
