2023 ELECTION: INEC DECLARES TINUBU PRESIDENT – ELECT
The chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission Prof. Mahmood Yakubu in the early hours of today declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election of 25 February 2023.
In the results Mr Tinubu defeated 17 other candidates who took part in the elections, he scored
a total of 8,794,726 votes, his close rivals Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) scored a total of 6,984,520 votes,
Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party came third with a total of 6,101,533 votes and Mallam Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) came fourth with 1,496,687
In the spread of votes per state Tinubu won in Rivers, Borno, Jigawa, Zamfara, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ekiti, Ondo, Oyo and Ogun states.
Atiku won in Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Kaduna, Gombe, Yobe, Bauchi, Adamawa,Taraba, Osun, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states.
Obi won in Lagos, Delta, Edo, Cross River, Plateau, Imo, Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Anambra, Abia, Enugu states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
Kwankwaso won in Kano state.

Also elected on the 25th of February were lawmakers for the national assembly which require 109 senators and 360 members of the house of representatives.
Meanwhile, the president – elect, the vice president – elect Alhaji Kasheem Shettima and all the newly elected people would be issued certificates of return for authentication of their positions while the gubernatorial and state assembly elections are expected to hold on March 11.
